I wonder what kind of wokr would eb neede to do genealogy for Grammy and Grampy. I bring this up, because Dad (Big Art) claims that Grampy is a Texan. Ok, i understand that... but where do we come from? DO we have European bacground from Spain or Portugal, Meneses I think deriving from POrtuguese, Menezez or something like that. Somethign to think about. Also, Grammy's background... how much indiginous roots are there. I think this would be an interesting project.

Menezez is portuguese, I'm not sure what % of the indeginous roots he has, but I was told it is of Yaqui background, a tribe that currently lives in Arizon (I think near Tucson) They were recognized as an offical tribe until the late 70's because they were never subdued by either the US goverment or the Mexican goverment, as they did a lot of border hopping whenever they felt they could get trapped. Grandma is Guerrero, and that's Spanish.

Mclellen which is right by the gulf and only about 1 hr from tamolipas where your grandma grew up. actually if you talk to my uncle Benjimen he was able to trace "Meneses" to an area of mexico near sinoloa area where the is actually a monument to the Meneses family near a villia where the family is originaly from, and al though there is some debate if Meneses or Menesez is spanish or porteguize uncle ben believes it is Spanish and whith the similariteis in our feature to the yacci indian geographicly i believe he is correct . because if i am not mistaken yacci and navajo are bacily the same just diffent ectensions of the same tribe

Grandpa Meneses was born in Hellinger, Texas. Grandma Meneses told me, that from Grandpa Meneses' side We have Portugues and Yacci Indian. From Grandma Meneses we have alot of Spanish, from Spain. To contribute to Gregs comment, yacci indians were first considered a mexican indian tribe when they first became affiliated with either countries (according to my husband) :)

Grandma Meneses told me that Granpa Gurrureo was actually a Texan but when he was very young, he killed a Texas Ranger and fled to Mexico because he had family there. Our Great-great grandfather fought with Poncho Villa against the french.
